Thanks for updating us Ron, mystery solved
I wonder why her name wasn't put on the headstone and why if she was a Mrs. she wasn't buried with her husband ?

Hi Skoosh, are you absolutely sure about this? I would have thought there were several other lairds a lot closer to Kilmaronock than Blanefield.
Hi OFG, two very good points, I may try and follow this further.

@ Ron, no doubt there were but it was an Edmonstone who was shacking up with the king & you don't get any more prominent than that!

Having satisfied myself as to who was in the grave I then went a-hunting for her spouse - Thomas Edmond, born 1844, married 1878 and then disappeared. I have tried all the normal BMD in the UK and the emigration records and have found no trace of Thomas.
Is there somewhere else that you experienced genealogists know of that I could search?
Thanks for your patience.
Ron
