Trying to find "Arthur Ball".....Help Please

Hi,

I am trying to find any information on my Great Grandfather, this is ALL I have......

Arthur Ball
B: 20 Oct 1884 East Kirkby, Notts
M: 22 July 1909, (Location unknown as yet)
D: Feb 1959

Arthur Ball emigrated to Canada in the late 1920's, Alone, leaving his wife and daughter.

I will be erternally grateful if anyone out there can help

This website lists three Arthur Balls who arrived in Canada from England in the late 1920s:

Arthur Ball, 22, arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on the Doric, 28 March 1927

Arthur Ball, 27, arrived in Quebec City, Quebec, on the Athenia, 4 July 1926

Arthur John Ball, 26, arrived in Quebec City, Quebec, on the Montcalm, 24 may 1929

If you know where Arthur Ball died or was buried, you can send away for records that might tell you if he was married in Canada, who his next of kin was there, etc.

I don't know if he got married over there, he left his wife and child over here and no divorce !!!!!

I have Canadian and American great-grandparents who never divorced.  Each settled down with someone else, had second families, and lied and said they were married to their second spouses.  At any rate, it's possible that your great-grandfather either co-habited or actually married again.  A cemetery or funeral home record should list next of kin, which might include a spouse or children.

After they split up, my great-grandparents spent the rest of their lives hiding their tracks and pretending their previous spouses and children hadn't happened.  I can't find them anywhere in the 1920 U.S. census.  I don't know when they separated or why.  It drives me crazy!  ; )

If you go to www.canada411.ca and click on Find a Person, then search on Arthur Ball in Quebec, you will get one result.  Perhaps he is a relative of your great-grandfather or it might be a coincidence.  It might be worthwhile to contact him.

How is it that you have your great-grandfather's date of death?

Thanks for the additional info, I will give it a try and see what comes of it.

I have his date of death came from my mother and I am waiting to find out how she knows this.  I had better explain, my parents got divorced when I was young my sisters went with my mother and I had to go with my dad......so when I have a conversation with her, because she remarried, it is through one of my sisters, so it takes a while.

Hello Family Guy,

It would seem that Arthur was a name the Balls commonly used for their male children. This makes it hard to pick the right one.

I have checked the indexes for British Columbia and see that Arthur Hector Ball married Sept 5 1926 and William Arthur Ball died July 3 1959.

Neither seems likely to be your man.
