Lusks of county Antrim
« on: Friday 11 September 20 23:01 BST (UK) »
I am looking for any information on Lusks from county Antrim.. My 2nd gt. grandfather was Robert Lusk Carson born approx. 1811 from Armoy.. As his middle name was Lusk and due to DNA matches to other Lusks, I am sure either his mother or grandmother was a Lusk..  I am also looking for information on a Nathan Lusk, born county Antrim approx. 1675 and migrated to Virginia, USA prior to 1700. His father was a William or John Joseph Lusk, born around 1654, perhaps either county Antrim or Scotland. His wife was listed as an Elizabeth Hayes.  Sorry I dont have any other info to narrow down exact area.

You have probably already seen https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/191679993/robert-lusk-carson and noted that death year on the memorial stone is 1896, whereas the closest matching death in timescale , which does seem likely to be for the same person, on civil registration is for a Robert  Carson,  with no middle name noted, at Moyaver, who died on same date, 5th February, but in 1897. Will at PRONI for this Robert of the 1897 death, also includes no middle name.

When Eliza Jane Carson married Henry Smyth in 1868, her father's name was also recorded as Robert Carson, with no middle name mentioned.

Also, Margaret Simpson nee Carson, looks to have actually died on 20th September1894, aged 80, rather than the day, year and age on the memorial.

Do you have any actual record that  notes your chap with the Lusk middle name?

PRONI Will Calendars - https://apps.proni.gov.uk/WillsCalendar_IE/WillsSearch.aspx

Will mentions daughters Eliza, Matilda, Mary Ann, Charlotte, Margaret and sons William, Robert, Samuel, John. His wife is not mentioned by name, but she (Jane) is the informant on Robert's death record.

This is probably Jane's death in 1910. Informant is her son Robert.

The Hearth Money Rolls for the 1660s list  6 Luske/Laske/Loske households in Co Antrim. The nearest to Armoy would be Thomas Loske in Killyramer, Ballymoney parish. You can view them on Bill McAfee’s site:

http://billmacafee.com

No parish in the Armoy area has any church records for the 1600s and likewise there are almost none for the 1700s either so researching for that period is very difficult, if not impossible. The oldest parish records for Armoy are the Church of Ireland’s and they only start in 1826.

Thank you everyone for the replies, greatly appreciated..Yes, most of the info provided is the Robert Lusk Carson I was inquiring about.. There is a grave stone that states that his name was Robert Lusk Carson, however it is correct that the year of death was incorrect.. He died in 1897 and not 1896 as stated on the grave stone.. Jane migrated to the U.S.A. shortly after Robert's death in 1897 so though interesting, the info with Jane living with a son Robert in 1901 and dying there in 1910 is not Jane Bell Carson, widow of Robert Lusk Carson.. Those records must match up with one of the other persons from the Carson family from which Robert Lusk came from.. The info on the Lusks is very interesting and I was afraid slim and hard to find.. DNA matches with persons that are descendants of the Lusks that migrated to the states in the early 1700's are indicating there is a possible connection, one I may never find.. Thank you all again.
