Interesting photo. The factory is ( I think) the Automatic Telephone Manufacturing Company Ltd, Milton Road, off Edge Lane. According to the Echo (9 November 1916, page 5) Thomas had been employed by Francis's in Renshaw Street before enlisting. So this was not his workplace.

if only the resolution of the scan was bigger it would be easier and a much better restore
