Looking for a place
« on: Thursday 20 August 20 18:43 BST (UK) »
I am researching a Francis family and one James Francis, b1867, states on the Wirral 1911 census that he was born in Llanmorn, Denbighshire.  His writing is quite legible, so there doesn't appear to be any dispute of the name, at least in my mind. I have no idea where this village is and none of the searches brings up the name.  Is this an old name, or shortened/local name.  I am hoping to find his parents to try to link them into my Francis family.
Many thanks,  Roger

Many thanks for this, I had wondered if it was Llanarmon, but as it is written in his own hand on the 1911 census, I rather thought he might know.  I had just found Llanferres on a baptism register so was starting to go with that.  Many thanks once again.   Roger

Thanks all, now certain that they are not my family, but an interesting chase anyway.  Osprey, I see that you are researching Thomas and Watkins in Glamorgan, my wife's family has the Thomas line going back to Robert Thomas 1777-1833 and his wife Lucy Williams 1781-1847.  They were mine owners and credited with being pioneers of taking steam coal to London and then around the world.  One of their grandchildren married
Mary Ann Watkins b 1846.

Kind regards to all.

Why are you certain that they are not the family?

marriage 29 Aug 1904 St Nicholas, Liverpool
James Francis 30 bach carter Ashfield St father James Francis deceased carter
Mary Hazlehurst 29 spin Ashfield St father James Hazlehurst deceased stone mason
witnesses Walter Hughes & Annie Mannion, all signed.

birth regs
George William Francis march qtr 1910 Wirral vol 8a pg 411 mmn Hazlehurst
John Francis march qtr 1908 Wirral mmn Hazlehurst
James Francis sept qtr 1905 Wirral mmn Hazlehurst

from the free index on the 1939 register, date of birth for James is 21 Nov 1867 so a match for the dec qtr 1867 birth reg.

My Thomas line is from further west, near Aberystwyth and my Watkins lived in Chepstow.
