Negative
« on: Monday 17 August 20 11:03 BST (UK) »
I have been trying to post a negative photo to be turned into a positive one but I think I need help ...

I understand very little about resizing but I scanned the negative at a very high resolution, as advised.
I have also reduced the horizontal number to 50 but the page will not accept it. It keeps telling me the photo is too big.

Please can someone advise me what to do, (in very simple terms  :D )
Thank you ...

The maximum size of a file to add as an attachment is 500 kb.
If you check on the size of the file you have scanned and it's more than that, you have to reduce the file size.
I usually do this through the photograph software on my computer (iphoto on an Apple MAc).
To do this you need to open the file in the program, then click on 'Export'. It gives you an option to save as 'full size images', or 'scale images'. (There must be a similar facility  on a PC). By altering the size of the 2 dimensions, you then reduce the size of the file. It's bit of trail and error until you get a file size just under 500 kbs, which you can then save and attach onto a post here on Rootschat.
There is no doubt a help page here somewhere - I'll see if I can find it.

Added: Here it is. A scanning and resizing tutorial.

Any program capable of resizing a photo is likely to have a built-in command for changing a negative to a positive. It might be called Negative, or Invert. Exactly where you'll find it will depend on which program you're using - one of mine has it in the Image menu, another under Colors.

If you're going to experiment, remember to use a copy of your original scan in case things go wrong. But if it doesn't work, don't worry as there are plenty of folk here who can do it for you.
