My Maternal grandparents named their son and daughter after them. Doris and Alfred (how original is that). when my mother married my father guess what the names of his parents were? You guessed it Doris and Alfred. Luckily my paternal grandfather was known as Frank.

none of the descendent's on either side of the family have carried on the tradition. all the grandchildren have original names.

Hi. we started out with our first daughter Samantha Jayne, next one was Selana Jo, should have been Selena, but with a surname Bacon !!!!!,  we improvised, the 3rd. was Sarah Jacqueline, [note[ all  S. J. , the 4th one we named Emma Victoria, Emma , don't know why the change, i suppose just to be different, Victoria is after the little hamlet in Yorks where i originated,  however we have a grandson, Samuel Joseph, so S J is back in again.

hi  :)
my husband and I name our first child Aimee' Louise
as there wasn't any other name in the family tree with that in Australia.
 ( he s 7th Australian born )
but the first boy had the name  Micheal Bruce his father Bruce Gordon after his father etc, to kept the line going  the 2nd son after my brother Colin James and 4th child a girl Victoria Epsbeth after me . my mum and her young sister had the same name, different father, Grandmother and great mother had the same name.
Just hope the generation do the same !

I remember a colleague of mine being very disappointed that her son and daughter in law didn't name their baby Robert, as it was a family tradition.  They'd named him Dylan instead.  I said "Don't worry, when he's older they can call him Dyl, and it will be really cool!"  She said "Dyl Pickle??!"    ::)

I'm only young but i've had names chosen for my future kids for years!  Phoebe Rosanna (Phoebe after my great nan, Elizabeth Phoebe, her nan was Phoebe aswell, and I just love the name (big fan of Friends :D ) and Rosanna after my nan on my fathers side and my eldest Sister).  I want a daughter called Irene Ellen aswell!  It is my mothers name, and it was my great aunties name.  My middle name is also Irene.  I've always loved the name Seamus for a boy - my dad was always called it when he lived in Ireland.  Seamus Edward (after the million Edwards in my family history).

My parents (although they have 10 children, only one child has had kids) were disappointed when out of 5 boys, none of them were named James after their father and grandfather!  Come to think of it, only one of the children was named after relatives.

I adore the names Evelyn (or Eveline), Iris, Benjamin, Baden and my own name, Jemma, but I don't think I'll be having as many children as my parents!

I love Friends as well.  I quite like Joey's new series too - did I hear they're going to make a Friends - The Movie?

Well we decided to name our children with names that weren't anywhere in the family. So eldest son became Gareth Antony, then there was Hayley Marie and last but not least was Lee Peter James (the Peter James after hubby as we knew his name wouldn't be carried on elsewhere and we only used Lee as his name anyway)

Then I started my Family research and you guessed it - We have 3 Gareths, 4 Hayleys and 7 Lees

Oh well so much for originality in the family. Gareth has 3 sons and their names are after his Dad, Grandfather and Uncle so we are back to the naming tradition again. Hopefully hayley and Lee will have names that we haven't got anywhere in the family
