Re: Help with the Sewell family

Please could anyone confirm a marriage for me?.  I have been looking for years to find a possible marriage for Annie Sewell who was my grandmothers sister. One of the problems that I had was that she had two sisters named Annie. Anyway I have finally found what I hope is the marriage of Annie Sewell born 1881. Her father was William J Sewell and he was a stone mason/stone polisher. The groom was Alfred Charles Rose. The marriage was in Camberwell in 1902.

She was baptised in 1881 with her brother who was born that year.  Her birth date is not filled in.

Unfortunately the 1881 census form is very faded. They are at 9 Little Gray’s Inn Rd, Holborn.

The children seem to be Annie 12, Alice 8, Annette 2 and William J, 1mo.

RG11/341/8/10.

Presumably this is a 2nd marriage* for William J Sewell snr (40, marble polisher). His wife Annie is 28.

*Now confirmed he was a widower when he married Ann Grainger at St Philip’s, Clerkenwell, 9 June 1878.
