Mary Foster of Elverson?

Just wondering if anybody has heard of a place called Elverson in Derbyshire please?

My 6x great grandparents Henry Rogers and Mary Foster married 12th October 1763 in Brailsford by banns. Henry was of this parish and Mary of Elverson.

I have the baptism/parents of Henry but am struggling to find the baptism/parents of Mary.

Looks like she was baptised  (if it was her) at Elvaston on 1 Aug 1736 - parents Thomas and Dorothy.

Thank you for having a look at this, much appreciated.

I wondered if it was Elvaston and the 1736 baptism. There is a Mary Foster marrying a Henry Daniel, 2nd August 1769 in Elvaston. If this is the Mary baptised in 1736, she would be about 33 when she married.

Can't be sure which marriage is the correct one for Mary baptised in 1736.

What did they name their children? For instance was a daughter named Dorothy by any chance (ie after Mary's mother). That wasn't a hugely common name.

Was Mary much older than her husband? I note you found his baptism.

I don't suppose there's any ages on burial records -- that would be far too handy wouldn't it!

I'm just making the evening meal -- so haven't time to check your query at the minute - but I'll see if I can find anything later, unless some super sleuth has found other evidence.

When do you have Henry Rogers baptised please

There is one baptised in Brailsford on 18. 7. 1734 -father Henry. So if he is the Henry from Brailsford who married your Mary - he was a couple of years older than her.

As for children I can only see Mary in 1765, William in 1767 and Jenny in 1770.

(Jenny may have been Jane as a Jane Rogers, daughter of Henry died in 1794 aged 24.)

Hence no daughter named Dorothy so bang goes that theory.

A Mary Rogers was buried in Brailsford, aged 80 on Oct 30th 1816 -- hence a birth year of c.1736.

So that could be your Mary. Looks like Henry was buried in 1812, Brailsford - age shown as either 76 or 78 I (couldn't make it out0.

On the basis of ages at death and the baptism years of Henry and Mary being only 2 years apart - there is a very good chance that the Mary baptised in 1736 in Elvaston was the one who married Henry baptised in 1734 -- as per the marriage record. Especially in view of the location and age at death of Mary Rogers.

That's just my opinion though.

Thank you for supplying this extra information. I was just about to supply further details but you beat me to it!

I have Jenny, William and Mary (my 5x great grandmother) as their children.

Thank you for for confirming the burials for Mary and Henry Rogers. Henry being baptised in 1734 in Brailsford, is what I have on my tree. His burial of 1812 fits with that baptism.

I hadn't seen Mary's burial until you mentioned it, that's very useful thank you. The fact her age was given as 80 in 1816 (birth about 1736), looks quite good for the 1736 Elvaston baptism.

I have also found a marriage licence for Henry Daniel and Mary Foster in 1769. This Mary Foster was a widow aged 50, born about 1719. So she definitely wasn't born 1736.

Based on all the extra information you have provided, I do believe that Mary baptised in 1736, Elvaston is very likely the correct one.
