I have one of OH's ancestors whom I am trying to sort out the correct father

On the marriage certificate, Alice Crompton, full age, marries John Waterhouse, in 1841.

Her father, as per the marriage certificate is James Crompton,and his occupation is Hatter.

In trying to find out more information, I have James Crompton as a cotton spinner.

I have a strong feeling that the two occupations are different, but would like someone else to confirm that feeling.

If that is so, it does mean that I will have to do some more digging to get the correct information about James Crompton.

Any comments would be very gratefully received.

The occupations are different.  My grandfather was a hatter  working in Hat manufacture in Stockport but could her father have changed his occupation by the time his daughter married??

You are researching the family of James CROMPTON, hatter.

What relevance does James CROMPTON, cotton spinner, have on your research.

It is not very helpful to say...."I have James Crompton as a cotton spinner."

How and why do you have .....James CROMPTON as a cotton spinner?

Are you seeing this name on a family tree?

Haven't been to the Hat Museum yet - must try and get there!

Re James Crompton a Spinner - I think that A Chesters has found a baptism for Jane with father James who is a weaver but not one where he is Hatter
