Joseph Caskey WILLIAMSON - my missing great uncle
« on: Friday 19 June 20 21:29 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am seeking information, please, regarding my great uncle, Joseph Caskey Williamson.  What I know:

- born 25 March 1897, Bovally Townland, co Londonderry to father John Williamson (1853-1934) and mother Sarah (nee McPherson)(1866-1954).
- 7 siblings, Margaretta b. 1890;  Hugh b. 1891;  Thomas b. 1893;  John b. 1895;  Herbert b. 1899; Eliza b. 1902 and Norman b. 1907.
- 1901 Ireland Census shows him age 3 living with parents and siblings in Bovally, co Londonderry.
- Church Marriage record for 2 February 1926 in the Parish of Carlisle Road, to Rebecca Livingstone Pollock.  Joseph's occupation was a Commercial Traveller.  His brother Thomas was a witness at the marriage.
- April 1954.  An Obituary for his mother Sarah Williamson in a Limavady newspaper has him as a (living) son, "Joseph C Williamson, 4 College Terrace, Londonderry, a prominent North-West businessman".

I have no other information regarding him nor his wife, Rebecca.

Any help would be much appreciated.  Thank you

I know the family you are looking for but it's not clear what information you want to find.

The information I would like to find would be:-

Where was Joseph in the 1911 Ireland Census?
Did Joseph and Rebecca have any children?
Did Joseph and his wife perhaps emigrate?  If so, where to?
And finally, what are the dates of death of both Joseph and Rebecca?

Joseph is the only sibling of my grandfather, of which I have not been able to trace to the end.

Two children of Joseph & Rebecca (Ruby)- address for both burials 4 College Terrace.
https://www.derrystrabane.com/Subsites/Museums-and-Heritage/City-Cemetery-Records-Project
1.   Stillborn baby 26 Dec.1932
2.   Baby 2 days old died & buried 18 July 1935 in plot belonging to Joseph Thompson (connected to Pollocks)
There could be other children who might still be alive.

1943- Mr. Joseph Williamson, College Terrace.
Londonderry Sentinel, 24 Jan.1956: Funeral of Mrs. John McNee[McKee?] “Ruby and Joseph Williamson.”

Have you searched for their deaths in PRONI's database?

From the Londonderry Sentinel of Tuesday 31 October 1950:

'An attractive wedding took place at Carlisle Road Presbyterian Church on Saturday, when the bridegroom was Mr. [name withheld], only son of Mr. and Mrs. P.H. Jermyn, "Everton," Sutton, County Dublin, and the bride was Miss [name withheld], only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Williamson, 4 College Terrace, Londonderry.'. The account of the wedding goes on to mention three of the bride's cousins, who were bridesmaids.

I will pm you all of the names.

Edited to add: I will also pm you details of two children to this couple and a possible death for the bride and groom.

Am sending you obituary for Joseph's daughter (in case it's not the one gaffy found) by pm since living people mentioned.

There is a phone book listing for J.C. Williamson at that 4 College Terrace address right up to the 1980 issue, there is no such entry in the 1981 issue.  BTW, should you be interested, the Belfast Newsletter of 30 October 1950 has a marriage photo for the couple mentioned above at reply #4.
