1851 Bath area for William Henry Wells
« on: Wednesday 24 August 05 05:00 BST (UK) »
I am looking for a father and son- same name. The son was born around 1851-3.  1991 census (Wimborne) says he was 38 born in Bath Somerset  and Marriage to Eva Hannah Fry in 1885 in Wimborne minster, he was 34.

I cannot find any trace of him prior to his marriage.

Hi Rosemary
I have been looking at all my disks trying to find your William Wells I found him on my dorset disk in 1891 with his wife and three children if you do not have their names I could send them to you.But on there is says son William J Wells born 1891
age 1 week. Not william H Wells.
I have searched and searched for William Wells born 1853 in Bath but no luck.Could the birthdate be wrong
Their are a few William Wells born in Bath if you would like me to write them out for you?
But maybe you have already found him.
Kind regards Chris.

Thank you for looking this up.  I have the same info.  He could have been born 1851-1853- one date from the marriage records and the other from the 1891 census.  Both say he was born in Bath. His father was also William Henry Wells and we have no info on him either.  He was listed as a "pensionner"on his marriage record and possibly in the Somerset Light Infantry, wounded and pensionned out- I have not been able to find any army records to substantiate this.  Do you have access to any army records?

Thanks, Chris,

I have been checking BathBMD but not Wiltshire- good idea!  Maybe I can find his father's death somewhere as well. We really don't know anything about them which is a disadvantage- his wife's family (Fry) I lucked out on in the Iwerne Courtney chuch baptisms- but I knew they were married there!

Anyway- I will keep trying, thank you for your suggestions,
Rosemary C.
