I persevered with the link several times while Ancestry "knew" I was signed in and it wouldn't work for me. Got the "problem" message each time.

Then I "signed out" and used the link, which opened a page with the same offer at the reduced price. First I did as you said and logged in (pressed the button "Already got an account?") but it still wouldn't work, so, having made sure I was still signed out, I tried again. This time I created a new account with a different email address and password...and it worked! And I have received a confirmation email.

So thank you very much again for your advice.

I did wonder if Ancestry had "twigged" by checking the IP address (though mine is different every time so OH says, since I always turn the laptop fully off). We'll see if it works again next year ! Perhaps I'll have to use the original email address again and devise yet another password!

An active subscription still running until cancellation would cause a problem. Presume your original subscription had expired ?

Pleased you got the offer eventually.  Don't forget to turn off the auto renewal otherwise next year will renew at the extortionate price !!

Other methods have been suggested :-

Right click the link, save as html, and open that.

Clearing cookies another option.

Existing users should ensure any previous subscription has expired first! This is important.
Logout of Ancestry.
Open a new window
Use one of the links from above (UK or Worldwide)

Existing users can then log back in to Ancestry to complete payment.

No not at all. You can use your existing, otherwise you would not have access to any trees you have
already worked on.  Cancel that auto renewal, that's important.
