My membership is up on 27th Feb…
 I have used this discount in previous years but it now looks like you can only get a 6 month sun, is that correct?
Do I need to let it run out completely before trying the discount or is it best just to cancel it?

Yes, you would need to let the subscription expire before renewing.

Go into your account and cancel, you will still have access until the date your subscription was due to end. Safer to cancel yourself than leave it to ancestry.

Thanks, I’ve had a web chat with them and they’ve offered me same discount 50% and I contact them on cancellation date quoting a number I’ve been given.
