Researching David/James Madden
« on: Friday 12 June 20 12:54 BST (UK) »
Hi I was just wondering if someone could help me with this research into my Irish ancestors.
My ancestor Maria Madden (daughter of David/James) was born born in either 1869 or 1872. I have her birth as August 13 1872, (can't remember where I found this). There is a baptism record for a Mary Madden on 27 April 1869, the daughter of James Madden and Bridget Deane (in Tipperary).

However, on her marriage record to Patrick Purcell in 1895 her father is listed as David!

Alternatively, I have her down as the daughter of David Madden and Margaret Grace (not sure where I found this). Of her 7 children, her second daughter was named Bridget, and first son was named James (possibly after father-in-law but not sure). Her other son was named Patrick.

Maria and Patrick lived in Shinrone, Offaly too - thought this might help with research. She passed away in 1958 aged "86."

Thanks,
Michael

Denis Madden not David and Margaret Grace

On her marriage David Madden is a servant. Occupation is important.

Is this Maria in 1901

Thanks for all your help myluck!, dathai, Sinann. That does change things up quite a bit. Is it possible that Denis and Margaret had another daughter called Maria, or alternatively, there is a mistake on her marriage record? I've heard that her and Maria and Patrick were both the only children in their families, but maybe my Maria was the second daughter?
Thanks,
Michael :)

Denis is a farmer, David is a servant.
Whatever about getting a name incorrect, getting farmer and sevant mixed up as well on the same record seems a bit much.

It looks like you need the church record of the marriage which would hopefully have the mother's name.
