Help with understanding DNA Painter

On the DNA Painter site, for instance it states Great-Aunt/Uncle then underneath 850, then underneath that figure 330-1467. I understand the range of matching cM is within the second figures but what is the 850? There is no mention of segments on the graft, how important are these & can they help to narrow down the exact match

I can't help you with much, but I believe the 850 figure is the average/median figure for the range below.

Thanks Spidermonkey, that would make sense as the match I have is 468 cM across 19 segments & I was trying to work out if the person was a Great Niece or Great Great Niece.

If you put 468 into the box you will see the possible relationships and their probabilities. 468 is more likely to be a great great niece. A great niece would be closer to 850 cM.

As a comparison, my niece and I share 1846 cM and her two children (grt niece and grt nephew)  share 1100cM and 836 cMs with me .

Thanks everyone for your help & explaining it in a way I can understand, as some of the sites I have been on I find beyond my comprehension. Looks like it's a Great, Great Niece then  Could I just double check one more thing please. If a 405cM DNA match from an 85 year old Male to a 75 year male is he a Great Great Uncle or a Half Great Uncle?

It could be half 1st cousin or 1st cousin 1remove.

Check Painter again with that figure.
