100 Hucknall Road Nottingham
« on: Monday 08 June 20 12:49 BST (UK) »
Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had any information about an address during the 1930s - 100 Hucknall Road nottingham.

My grandads adopted brother (Peter Carroll adopted Davis) was born at this address in 1933 and it does not appear that his mother lived there. Her work address and mother's address are both on the birth cert but neither are 100 hucknall road. We can't find any connection to the family that lived at there at the time (Thomas Hodgkinson).

The only interesting information we have found is that Thomas' sister Mrs Lomas (married to a Frank Lomas) ran a theatrical boarding house at her property on Bilbie Street, Notts. In the early 1900s Charlie Chaplin was in the area for a tour and fell ill, and Mrs Lomas arranged for him to stay at 100 Hucknall Road.

I'm wondering if this property was also a theatrical boarding house and if anyone has information of other people that may have stayed there.

Why was Peter born at this address??

If anyone has any information about this address or the area around the time that would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi Hattierose

Could 100 have been 700. I believe the workhouse on Hucknall Rd was number 700. I have come across the street number and street being put on birth certs before instead of putting Workhouse.
I know 1 and 7 can be confused sometimes depending on how it's written.

Thank you Sheila! This does make more sense! I will look into number 700 instead.

Do you know where I could find more information about this workhouse?
Thanks

Just found this thread and it's really helped. My Gt Gt Granddad Samuel Price died at 700 Hucknall Road in 1930 and I've always read it as 100 too. Thank you.
