Southwick, Sussex electoral register 1970's-1980's how to view?

Is there access to the following to find out if a family of Banfield's lived on Park Way, Southwick or another resource?

Good Morning,

Earlier this year I went through the electoral registers of Southwick looking for someone - but had to go to the West Sussex Record Office in Chichester to do so - I don’t think it’s possible online. What about phone books - might be on Ancestry? (I’ve just looked and can’t see them in there.)

Mum’s cousin lived just round the corner from Park Way but unfortunately she died last year - she knew “everyone” in Southwick having lived there almost 100 years! A quick phone call would have answered this easily! (Mum left in the 60’s so I doubt she’d know but I’ll ask her later.)

jonw65 -  I have been going through the probate records for anyone who died in Southwick around the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's to see if I could find one with that address - but nothing so far - one ref that could be relevant in the London Gazette of someone who died in a Southwick Nursing home in 2014.

I agree those Worthing deaths could be relevant but the first doesn't seem to have left a will and the second is too late for there to be an address - annoying!

John - do you have any first names of people (not living) who might have lived there?

Yes - that 2014 death is the one in the London Gazette - but who is C J Banfield - should I have heard of him  ?

There are Banfields in Park Way in 1939. Sorry - they are in Park Lane - but there is a family in The Crescent which is next to Park Way.

C J Banfield is in the phone books at 2b Parkway
I only have the full names of C J and his wife from their daughter Diane, who also lived at 2b Park Way.
CJ Banfield was only listed at that address in the 80's phone books. As we know, we cannot infer too much from that (i.e. how long he/they had been there)

So we can say there is a connection.
There may of course have been another Banfield family there that hasn't showed up.

The 1939 family could be followed up?

Ahh - I see - I have completely failed with my Ancestry searches this morning on my iPad as it refused to recognise Southwick (better not tell Mum  ) even exists - I have now moved to my computer - luckily although Southwick doesn't exist (odd) I can get around it more easily.

I think the only way to be sure might end up being the electoral registers which contrary to popular belief really are in WSRO.

Mum's cousin would have known - she was an expert in the history of Southwick and loved writing about it. Although I have Banfields in my tree they lived in Ditchling, Shermanbury and villages around here.

Nor cemeteries (if they were buried, possibly not, and it may be the wrong places online anyway)

CJ Banfield family not terribly young, of course we don't know anything about the family johnt96 is searching for.
