In the 1861 census the road where Joseph Pierce lived is just "Canal", with house numbers.

I think it must be the Dyke, Shaun. It was certainly on the old maps when I looked yesterday.

I have found the area from the census in 1851 when Ann (Robert's mother) was living with her parents but there is now no water anywhere near there.

I wonder if it went further into Wycombe in 1851/1861 ? That could well be it if so. I can imagine that any extension would have been filled in recently to facilitate road building.

I wondered if it was some of the properties to the east of Laura Place and to the south of Queens Square which are unnamed and adjoining the water??

Although the map is 1897

Thank you very much. I think I can see the canal which is now not there. There is a long row of houses on one side very close to Oxford Road.

This is an earlier map which I think shows the water more clearly - but even fewer streets are named!!
