Hi BumbleB  :)

I have the image for Elsie, she was baptised as Elsie Rogers on 17/4/1901 at St Nicholas.

I have just been googling and there is a story about Sarah's sister Martha something to do with steeling 5/8/1904 Nuneaton Observer.

So if 23, Court, Abbey Street is the same as 102, Abbey Street that would make sense.

Alan

Looking at the 1901 images of the census returns there doesn't appear to be a number 23 court
22 court is next door

Sarah's father was Albert.

I have found a marriage 1928 Hinckley Albert Ridgway to Gladys James age 25 no father given.

05 August 1904 - Nuneaton Observer

Hinckley Girl in Trouble
Lizzie Colver, hosiery hand, Hinckley, was charged by Martha A Ridgway with stealing a jacket and a pair of boots, value 19s. at Nuneaton on July 27th.
Sarah Everitt, wife of Oliver, Jodrell Street stated the defendant came to live with her as a lodger on 17th July. Witness gave her 1s. 4d. to make some purchases, and defendant went out and never came back.
Martha Ann Ridgway, daughter of previous witness, deponed to missing her jacket and shoes. Defendant pleaded not guilty, but the case was proved and she was sentenced to one months imprisonment.

From your thread on the census Sarah & Martha stepdaughter of Oliver Everitt

Thank you Ladyhawk.

I have tried to get to those stories off the Observer through FindMyPast but I haven't been able to work out how to do it. I managed to download the 28/8/1903 page but that's all at the minute.

I do think that Albert is another child of Sarah with the father John Bartlett I found him in the 1939 with his wife Gladys although they have got the year wrong but probably the birthday date. I am not surprised he was confused which year he was born. I wouldn't be sure Edward Rogers was the father of Elsie though although his name was on the baptism.

In one of those court cases for John Bartlett he was living in Whittleford Road that's the same Road Elsie was living in 1924 when she got married. I took a picture of the house last week when I was there.

Is the witness Violet related to Albert ?
