Another one to consider  :)

In the Nuneaton Observer 5/6/1903

"John Bartlett, miner, Stockingford was summoned by Sarah Ann Ridgway, single Nuneaton who sought an order in bastardy.  An order was made for 3s per week to be paid until the child was 14 years of age, defendant to pay the costs 18s"

There is also an article 28/8/1903 where he is summoned again for arrears

Wow Julie what a surprise. Definitely Sarah. Now was that another child or was that Elsie. Sarah died in 1904 and I wonder what she died of now. Elsie being born in 1901 and 1903 the case. Unless he had stopped paying. I wonder if her death is in the Observer. John Bartlett miner may be in the census somewhere. Alan

There is an Albert Edward Ridgway birth June qtr 1902 Nuneaton 6d 517. No mmn given. A bit like Elsie Maud no mmn given. Could that be the child.

I did look for Sarah's death in the papers but only found the other articles.

If this Albert Edward Ridgway is Sarah's son and I suppose I will never know unless I buy the certificate which is going to take weeks again to get. First of all when Sarah registered Elsie as Ridgeway and Albert is Ridgway the proper spelling is my only doubts that I might be wasting my money. I have looked for him getting married and even his death but no sign. Alan

If the Warwick Records Office was open it would be so easy for me i can look at all the Parish records and newspapers. I wonder if there is a baptism for an Albert Edward Ridgway or Bartlett at St Nicholas Church in Nuneaton.

Julie thanks, that first one is 28/11/1901 with no father's name on it could probably be for Elsie born 18/2/1901. The second one in 1903 could be for a different child naming John Bartlett as the father. Like you say the originals would probably give more details.

This is just something I was wondering.

On 15/3/1901 Sarah registered Elsie as living at 23, Court, Abbey Street. On 31/3/1901 census date Sarah was with her mother at 102, Abbey Street. Edward Rogers was at 32, Midland Road with his mother. Then on 17th April the baptism they gave the address as 23, Court, Abbey Street.

So if 23, Court, Abbey Street is the same as 102, Abbey Street that would make sense.

Soon as that Record Office opens I can look at the originals.

Just using "Albert Edward", mother's name as "Sarah" and Nuneaton as the location, there is no sign of a baptism at St Nicholas, Nuneaton - 1905 +/- 5 years.

Similarly for Elsie.
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
