It might have been more for in pensioners perhaps :-\, but certainly worth looking into.
Wonder when TNA will reopen?

Unlikely for an out-pensioner, unless he happened to be lodging in the area, as many did. But in any case the Greenwich Hospital burial registers for this period are on Ancestry, in the database England & Wales, Non-Conformist and Non-Parochial Registers, 1567-1970.
