James Gibson Mann Year of photo and army regiment??
« on: Saturday 23 May 20 21:45 BST (UK) »
The man in the back right of this photo is my uncle, James Gibson Mann. He was born in Ipswich, England in 1900. Looking for assistance to find the approximate year that this photo was taken and army regiment.

He entered the army at the age of 18 and at some point was stationed in India. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Alice

My first thought is Royal Artillery 1920s.

Agreed - most have Great War medal ribbons.
The Royal Garrison Artillery had been absorbed into the Royal Field Artillery in 1924.  Their buttons seem to be a mix of small (ball) buttons worn by the Royal Horse Artillery and larger ones worn by the Royal Artillery.

Back right has no medal ribbons which suggests he didn't serve overseas during the Great War.  He is a sergeant which may push the date towards mid to late 1920s or even 30s.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

James Gibson Mann born 1900 is on the '1921 Census of England and Wales'.
Location is 'Army, Armed Forces Overseas'. You should be able to find his regiment and service number from this record.

You must pay to view and download records from 1921 Census
