Adoption Records around the 1900s

Hello,

Ive tried having a look but havent been able to find anything useful.

Is it possible to find adoption records for someone born from 1890 to 1910s. if so could you please point me in the right direction?

Adoptions were not legal at that time so it would have been an informal one, so difficult to find records.
