1939 Register is this still being updated ?
« on: Saturday 16 May 20 14:00 BST (UK) »
Is this register still being updated?

I ask, because there are some entries blacked out, and I know the people are long gone.

Thanks

The NHS kept the 1939 register up to date until 1991, see https://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/help-with-your-research/research-guides/1939-register/

I am sure anyone born after 1916 who were still alive in 1991 will still be redacted from the 1939 register unless you inform them that they have died.

Thanks.  It's not  important because I do know the details of these people.

It's just strange that my Mum is showing (correctly) but her younger brother is also showing - and he is very much alive.

My father died in 1991..but is still blocked out.

That is not my experience. I know of people who have died after 1991, including quite recently, and the 1939 register has been updated by findmypast without anyone asking for it. Other sites that hold the 1939 do not update it very often and when they do they take the updates from findmypast who originally made the record public.
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

The redactions were done at transcription level and any updates are probably dependant on a correction being sent in. I think they redacted anyone under 100 years old that they weren't sure had died

To have a closed entry opened you have to provide a copy of the death certificate (or at least you did when it was first published --don't know if it has changed)

I don’t think this is necessarily the case.

My aunt, born 1919 died 2014 is now showing on the 1939 register on FindMyPast having been redacted until about a year ago.

No request was made by her family to uncover her entry.

I thought that FindMyPast were continually updating it themselves, they certainly did a large update in September 2019

1939 Register Update
To mark the 80th anniversary of the 1939 Register, we have made over 79,000 closed records searchable for the first time in association with the National Archives. In the three years since the Register was first launched, Findmypast has matched millions of ‘closed records’ to multiple data sources to correctly confirm the date and location of death for individuals whose information was redacted. These new additions are currently exclusive to Findmypast, the official home of the 1939 register.

Your aunt was born more than 100 years ago - and so had the redaction removed.
