Hello - New member. I'm trying to find information on Helen Bearup who was married (2nd wife) to Thomas Hislop Paterson (my great-great-grandparents). I know Thomas' parents were John Paterson and Isabella Hislop. Any information on the ancestors of Helen Bearup would be greatly appreciated. Sonoma Bill

It looks like Helen may have been married previously to a Bearap, the marriage record above may confirm.

Helen P*t*r*s*n, other surname Bearup, died in Galashiels in 1902 aged 84.

Go to www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, register and invest in a few credits, and use some of them to download the death certificate. It should tell you the full names of Helen's parents including her mother's maiden surname.

There is a couple from Gordon, Berwickshire having children at the right time to possibly connect to Helen. At least 3 children show for a James Bearup and a Charlotte Houliston. Charlotte looks to be the name of Helen's first child with Thomas Paterson.

As suggested by Forfarian, checking her death reg will let you confirm her parental details.

I just finished looking at the Houliston family tree (on Helen Bearup) that was included in Monica's response above. That is absolutely amazing.

I know I need to confirm all of the information, but it provides a great starting point - and it looks like it's very well researched.
