Timothy Harrington m. Julia Falvey - any help?
« on: Monday 04 May 20 01:07 BST (UK) »
I am getting stuck.

I have a record of my 2nd G-Grandparents getting married on Nov 4 1856 in Gananoque, Leeds Co, Ontario, Canada.

I am certain that Cornelius Harrington and Margaret Ryan are my 2nd G-Grandparents, as their son, Dennis, was my grandmother's father, and my grandmother recalled Margaret and had a photo of her.

Their marriage record gives the following information:
Cornelius Harrington of the Rail Road in this mission
Margaret Ryan, also of this mission
Parents of Cornelius - Timothy Harrington and Julia Falvey from Parish Kilcastle?? C. Cork.
Parents of Margaret - Michael Ryan and Bridget Lahey from Parish Kilknomon?? C. Limerick.

I also found a newspaper clipping in an American paper posted by a Jeremiah Falvey in Moira, Franklin, NY seeking his nephew Cornelius Harrington, son of Timothy Harrington and Julia Falvey, from Rosnegrena, Top of the Glen, Glengariffe, County Cork who married Mike Hyan's (sic) daughter from Cappawhite, County Tipperary about 12 years prior (this was posted in 1871) at Guaranacque (sic), Grand Trunk Railroad, Canada.

Despite some misspellings and such, this certainly reinforces that Timothy and Julia are Cornelius' parents.  But I am unable to find any information about them.  I don't know if they stayed in Ireland or came to Canada (or went to the US?) and I don't know when they married or what other children they might have had.

Anyone able to point me in the right direction?

ENGLAND-CANADA: Charles William Hawdon (1850-1935)

There was indeed a Cornelius Harrington baptised for those parents in Adrigole RC parish on 2 December 1830 and the address was Rossnagrena.

That address of Rossnagrena townland in the civil parish of Kilcaskan is important to note, for Harringtons in the more general area straddling counties Cork and Kerry were quite plentiful.  If you look up Rossnagrena in Griffith's Valuation (local print date 1852), you will see it predominated by a cluster of Harringtons, including a Timothy:
