need help deciphering WWI naval ship name have attached close up and expanded out images and advise is appreciated thanks

How about Hermione. Launched in 1893 and took part in WW1, sold 1921.

Tricky.

I also wondered about something along the lines of Hermione, but the ending just doesn't seem right.

Makes me wonder whether it is - as Shaun suggested - Hermes, but written Hermaes. For whatever reason... And with a small squiggle at the end.

HMS Hermes went down in 1914 after being torpedoed. Does that possibly tie in with whatever you are researching, teatom?

It is not Hermes because the sailor who compiled those sheets would know how to spell it and there are too many letters.

It is not Hermes because the sailor who compiled those sheets would know how to spell it and there are too many letters.

I have to admit to having no idea what these sheets are or who wrote them.

But whoever wrote it, for someone who knows how to spell the name, he's made a pretty crap job of it if it should indeed be Hermione.  ;)

The sheet is a sailor's service record and shows which ships he served on, when and what his rank was on each vessel.
