Kirk Session record relating to poor relief
« on: Thursday 23 April 20 17:51 BST (UK) »
Hi Does anyone have a scanned copy of a Kirk Session entry relating to poor relief. Any parish will do.  Many thanks in advance. It's for educational purposes.

Don't have any from Lanarkshire but I have something like that from a Fife parish. Let me know if that's useful and I'll scan & upload it for you.

What do you need it for exactly?

You don't find the details about individuals that you get with the parochial boards when they take over poor relief from the church. What you usually find in kirk session minutes are lists of the poor and the amount of money they receive at the regular distributions. You also find entries where relief in kind is given (meal, a coat, shoes etc.), Sometimes a stranger to the parish is given assistance. A coffin is often paid for.

Many thanks. I need to illustrate the Old Poor Law and the New Poor Law and their resources.  I want to highlight what you can glean from both.
