Agree with JM.
Very good gaffy.

Trying to think on the SMITH connection.
Did Alison have sisters? Did anyone marry a SMITH and go to Australia?

Michael SHANNON remains a mystery. Was he the one with a SMITH connection?

When/if Alice returned to UK, would she enter likely through a Scottish port?
Perhaps our OP has further information.

This is the problem with old records . The person recording them spelt them how they wanted. My grandmothers maiden name was Fernie. You would not believe the different ways that name is spelt. Also Isabel another family name  . I have even seen it spelt Isbl

Hi Isabel,
Have you looked through all the replies posted on the thread.

Such as the same destination for both Alice and SHANNON being found.

The remarriage of Alice's mother being found

And more.

Your comments would be of assistance if you hope to move forward.

I have asked you about siblings for Alice. Can you respond please.

Yes, we all have hurdles with incorrect spelling of recorded names.

Not sure if this is helpful - looking at Michael SHANNON - his address on the passenger list is (I think) Main Bridge, Polmont.

1901 Census for Abercrombie Place, Polmont:
Michael Shannon   36, coke maker, b Ireland
Elizabeth Shannon   36, b Maravainde, Stirlingshire (Possibly poor transcription for Muiravonside)
Susan Shannon   6, b Falkirk
Elizabeth Shannon   2, b Polmont

I don't have access to many Scots records so can't find anything else useful about him.

Perhaps the connection is through his wife who was born close by.

no help in finding what happened to them in Australia though.
