When Annie and Henry were in India, they hobnobbed with the Raj and lived quite the high life, so I guess she could have been dressed for a special occasion.  They returned to the UK when the war broke out and Henry enlisted.  After the war, Henry went to China to supervise work on the railways there.  Eventually Annie and two of her children joined him in China.  He was killed in an accident 6 months after their arrival.   :(

Very sad.  There is an error in the article, they had four children but only the two youngest went to China. The two eldest daughters stayed in the UK, and never got to see their dad for a number of years before he was sadly killed.  :(
