I have two old photos -

the first one is of my grandmother...Irish born but moved to Barcelona with her sister and an aunt around 1915 returning to Ireland at the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936.
I think this is picture of her in a school uniform
I have a very battered School Registration record for her sister from 29 June 1916 in the brilliantly named 'Colegio de las Esclavas del  Corazón de Jesus' - The College of the Slaves (servants) of the Heart of Jesus.
Prior to going to Spain, both sisters attended St. Ursula's Mercy School in Bristol.

Could this be a photo of her in her school uniform from 1916-ish??....all and any advice welcome.

It may have been a photo taken in Bristol but attached to a postcard and sent from Barcelona when they arrived.

The second is of my grandfather and his daughter from 1931....I think it is taken in a park in Barcelona.....any idea / suggestions of which part would be great....maybe the buildings in the background give a clue.
My grandparents were living on Paseo de Gracia (91) at the time. The child in the photo died in April 1936, was buried in Mont Juic, a mere three months before my grandparents fled the Civil War for Ireland, never to return.

I would say the first photo looks to have been taken in the 1920s.

It doesn't look like a school uniform but I wouldn't really know what she would have worn to school.
What year was she born?

The little one is really cute  :)

She was born in 1899.....there is a date on the back of the 'school??' photo that says 1924 - I think she looks too old to be 25 years of age  - the change between this photo and her wedding photo we have from 1928 would suggest a gap of greater than four years!
We didn't put too much pass on the date on the back of the photo as other photos / letters we have have shopping lists  / bread lists written on the back of them!!!
Thanks very much Carol for the clean up!

Without reading your post I would have said mid-late 1920's so the 1924 date is on the money.
She looks in her 20's to me.

I agree with Jim that the 1924 date and her at 25 is on the money.    Good photo with the clean up, and I also agree she doesn't look too old, a lovely photo.     In the second photo, the little girl likewise looks the age of two in 1931, Fathers little girl, and a sad passing.
Very difficult to make out the background hence park location, but I remember quite a few parks on that long street, with hotels behind.
I hope I am not being too inquisitive, but was your Grandfather in the Hotel Trade, thinking with the above, he might have been taking a break in a park opposite the Hotel.    If so he probably had accommodation provided, but obviously pure speculation.

Hi Long Tom,
I agree the clean up is brilliant!
My grandfather was actually a telegraphist....we have ID cards from his time in Barcelona from 1922 to 1934 - including one from the 'Pueblo Espanol' at the International Exposition of 1929.
In 1931 they were living at 231 on the Avenida de la Republica, Argentina.
