Can't find definitive birth record.
« on: Thursday 09 April 20 13:45 BST (UK) »

I'm looking for help finding the true birth of John Boyd. On the 1939 Register he gives his date of birth as the 22nd May 1891 however there are no records for a John Boyd born 2nd or 3rd quarter of 1891 in Manchester only one in the 4th quarter.  I then found one page of a record on the Seaman's Register dated 1910 with the same birth date and  place of birth and he's a fruit hawker.

Following the record for the one born in the 4th quarter 1891 I found a baptismal record at St Oswald's Church, Collyhurst on the 8th November 1891 to a John and Sarah Elizabeth Boyd. In 1911 the family are living in Bolton and give his age as 19 which would fit with a birthday after the census.

Is it possible that his parents forgot to register his birth and did so later in the year but told him his true birthday?

Thanks

Margaret

His true birthday will be noted on his birth certificate irrespective of when it was registered.

Yes it was the same couple.

The reason I think they forgot to register it was that the same thing happened to my grandmother, her father forgot to register her birth and when he remembered he gave November 2nd as the day she was born so it fit in with the 42 day requirement. She actually never knew what date she was born as she was one of 14.

I somehow don't think that buying the birth certificate will give his true birth date as it would have to fit in with the required registration date in the 4th quarter and not the 2nd or 3rd.

His death gives same dob

John  BOYD
Born  22 5 1891
Jun 1970 Manchester Volume   10E Page   950

Could there have been a mistake with his place of birth?

So we know that's the same person. Three official records with his date of birth and the Seaman's Register says Manchester.
