You got a Windows 8 laptop?

Not exactly the best choice so no wonder you do not like it.

Win 8 came out in 2012 and was replaced by Windows 10 in 2015.

To say Windows 8 is a dog is a gross disservice to man’s best friend.

What exactly is up with it?

It was resource hungry.

It was very, very buggy.

It suffered from a lot of hacks.

The icon based interface was disliked by many millions of users.

As for DOC files

My advice would be to save all files as DOC format for maximum future proofing, additional save versions as RTF and PDF.

Then save all the files on multiple storage devices.
