I'll try my best to keep this short and as simple as possible, but it's pretty complicated. My father grew up in NYC nearby relatives who were related to him via his mother's paternal side of the family. If my grandmother were still alive, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't know how exactly these people are related to use either.

Anyway, the furthest information I have is through Patrick Laffey, born around 1905 in Galway. He was the father of the family who lived in NYC near my father. Patrick's mother was Kathleen Kane, who is probably related to my father's family through his grandfather Philip Kane.

There are a couple major issues here, though.

Philip Kane's mother's surname was Kane as well as his father's, and Patrick Laffey's father married three times due to deaths in childbirth, so there's also the possibility that we could  be related through one of the other "mothers", and this Kathleen Kane just could have shared the surname with us without being related.

Based off of some info I was able to collect from my aunt, it is believed that Patrick Laffey is related to us through the maternal Kanes, which would be through Philip Kane's mother, Bridget Kane. She was born 1861 in Galway, and we only know of one sibling, John Kane (no dates known). However, it seems unlikely she only had one sibling, so we're thinking that maybe this Kathleen Kane could have been her sister? Anyway, Bridget Kane's parents were named Martin Kane and Winifred Faherty, but I don't have any definite birth or death dates, aside from "about 1818" for Martin's birth year.

You probably have quite a bit of information as you already know Philip Kane's mother's surname was Kane as well as his father's, and Patrick Laffey's father married three times due to deaths in childbirth, so there's also the possibility that we could  be related through one of the other "mothers", and this Kathleen Kane just could have shared the surname with us without being related

.....so hopefully you will find new conections as you can study them bit by bit at your leisure.

Right click on names and open them in New Tab.. much handier
