Herbert Lewis Bibby
« on: Monday 30 March 20 20:30 BST (UK) »
Looking for any information on Herbert Lewis Bibby (b.1884). Migrated to Canada in 1907 from Leeds UK. He died in 1913 and was buried in Montreal. I believe he married Mary Ann XXX. I would like to find the name of his wife and what happened to her after Herbert's premature death. Also did he have any children and what caused his death so young.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

If you can read it, here is Mary Anne's maiden name.  My guess is Covell.
from the Quebec Church Records (Drouin Collection)

So others know where to look for the marriage:

He was single when he arrived at New York, 19 April 1907, a glazer, headed for Toronto.
travelling with William Hodges, 30, a glazer, and William's wife Selina, 28. All headed to their friend, Mr C Smith, 261 Green St, Toronto

I kind of assumed the marriage was in Canada or you would have had the information, but anyway, :)

Here is another view of Mary Ann's maiden name.
She and R Coull [?] signed the burial record I transcribed above

Mary Ann remarried in Vancouver, British Columbia, 20 Dec 1915
Name:    Mary Ann Coull
Gender:    Female
Spouse Name:    Alfred John Read
Spouse Gender:    Male
Marriage Date:    20 Dec 1915
Marriage Location:    Vancouver
Registration Number:    1915-09-080956
BCA Number:    B11379
GSU Number:    1983707

exact same registration number, etc:
Name:    Mary Ann Bibby
Gender:    Female
Spouse Name:    Alfred John Read
Spouse Gender:    Male
Marriage Date:    20 Dec 1915
Marriage Location:    Vancouver
Registration Number:    1915-09-080956
BCA Number:    B11379
GSU Number:    1983707

ancestry hints link her to a Mary Ann Read, age 71, died Vancouver 1 June 1956, obituary 5 June 1956. Perhaps someone with access to newspapers.com can see if this is really her and if it mentions children named Bibby.

Mary Ann died 1 June 1956, Vancouver, BC, father's name transcribed as "Robert Coula"

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FLRJ-9SH

Which means she is probably this person:

In 1911, there is a Mary Ann Coull, 26, born June 1884 in Scotland, arrived 1910, working as a maid for a Paterson/Peterson family in St Antoine, Montreal. Also in the household is a Joan Coull [indexed as John at ancestry], age 24, born June 1886, Scotland, arrived 1911.

If so, she is the daughter of Robert and Agnes Coull, living in Throston, Durham, England, in 1901. Age 15, sister Joan, age 13, in the same household. Also a Robert Coull, age 9

Robert might be the R Coull on the burial register.

and if so, Robert, when entering the US
said his father Robert was at 82 Bennett Avenue, Maisonneuve, PQ.
Robert, 28 and wife Betsey, 20, were headed to Fall River, Massachusetts. Lots on Robert in the US.

Herbert Louis Bibby and Mary Ann Coull were married in Montreal 14 Sep 1912. Both were residents of Montreal. Calvin Presbyterian Church Parish Record, Montreal.

Civil Registration in Quebec only began in 1994 so I believe there will only be a burial record for Herbert. If an obit can be found, it might have info about a cause of death.

Could this be Alfred Reid, working away from home?

1921 Mill Bay, Naas River, BC
Alfred John Reid, single, 36, roomer born in England, engineer, cannery, arrived Canada 1908, Church of England

There isn't anyone named Bibby, exact spelling, in British Columbia, that is the right age to be Mary Ann's child. But if there was a child, he/she could be listed as Reid. I'm having trouble finding Mary Ann on the 1921 census.
