Great grandmother in Australia - date the photograph please
« on: Monday 30 March 20 12:29 BST (UK) »
This is my Great Grandmother Margaret pictured in Australia.  Margaret was born in 1869 if that helps.
Thanks

I would have thought 1920s. Though I am not sure she looks as old as in her 50s.

I agree with Ruskie about the 1920s look.

Before reading anything else I thought 1920's given the white or very pale stockings, the shortness of the hem, bobbed hair and the characteristic shoes.

And yes, she looks very well preserved for 50 and perhaps more importantly absolutely following fashion which wasn't so common in those days as it is now (or so I'm given to believe, especially reading Golden Age detective stories where the 50 year old mothers are often referred to as old ladies  ;))

I would have expected her skirt to be a bit longer, especially at her age, but she has a good set of pins so no wonder she is showing them off.  :)

Interesting photo.

It is a shame some of the detail has faded.

Lovely photo and I agree with the suggested date but are you sure it's who you think she is. she doesn't look to be in her 50s  ???

I wondered that too Carol. I originally thought she might be in her 30s or 40s but looking a bit closer I suppose at a pinch she could be a well preserved 50 year old.  :)

I was struck by the careful posing, with the mirror and so on....

Steve, you don't happen to have any more photos of Margaret taken around the same time do you?
