Mary Jane Conroy
« on: Friday 27 March 20 11:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I'm looking for info re Mary Jane Conroy, born c. 1863, possible in Lancs.
She married Lawrence Keegan in 1883 and I have a burial for 1895, giving her age as 32.

I would be grateful for anything at all.
Thankyou.

If she is the Mary J Keegan living in Wigan in 1891 with children Edward, John & Sarah then her place of birth is given as Manchester and she was 27.  (Laurence was age 28 born Ince)
RG12/3051 Folio 117 Page   6

What information does the marriage give for her father

Thankyou both.
I'm afraid that, as I've only just started this search, I only have the record from FreeBmd, which doesn't give the father's name.

The mother in law listed with a different surname is iinteresting.

Thankyou both.
The mother in law listed with a different surname is iinteresting.

Just a wee bit of cautioning here, as back in the day,  'Mother-in-Law-' could also mean a 'Step-mother'. The Term -in-law was very often used to mean 'step'.

Having said that....

Lawrence KEEGAN b jun qtr 1862 Wigan, mms ORANGE (Ince is in the Wigan Reg District)

John KEEGAN
married: Sarah ORANGE , jun Qtr 1859 Wigan

The KEEGAN family are found:
1881 in ince:  RG11; Piece: 3776; Folio: 95; Page: 21. Lawrence is there aged 18.
1901 in Ince: RG13; Piece: 3564; Folio: 85; Page: 8
Can't find them in 1891 - but the main point being : father John and mother Sarah are both present, alive and well.

So your 1890's  family's mother-in Law, Sarah Martin  is not Lawrence's step-mother.... ;D

Ahah.....Sarah MARTIN in 1891  is a red-herring and is actually part of the next household.

The address of the next household, 15 Anderton Street - is next to Sarah's name (i: on the same line), then is listed after her,  at that address also is:
Head: James Cartwright 34,
Wife: Jane Cartwright 30,
son: Henry MARTIN  8
Son: John Thomas MARTIN  5

In 1901;
Head: James CARTWRIGHT 41,
Wife: Jane CARTWRIGHT 40,
Stepson: Henry MARTIN  18
Stepson: John Tho's MARTIN  15
Mother-in-Law: Sarah MARTIN 68, widow

So....that's the end of that line of thought  :'(

Cheers
