Help with cause of death, please
« on: Tuesday 24 March 20 00:31 GMT (UK) »
The attachment is a screenshot of my great-grandfather's cause of death in 1909. I can't work out what it was, though. Can anyone help, please?

Thanks,
            Peter

I agree.

I thought the middle word might be something like 'Bright's'.

I think it starts with an M. But also wondered about Bright.....

However ends tion?

As far as I know Bright’s disease has always been that,  never a longer word.

I wonder if in the middle word that the second letter might be a crossed out error? Definitely ight after the first letters. I'm puzzled by the last letter - seem to be two dots above them.

Unfortunately my favourite and first port of call for causes of death “Rudy’s” seems to have been hijacked and is all in Japanese.  >:(

I can see the ‘right’ though that may be because others have mentioned it and now that I have seen it I can’t I see it.  :)

However I am not sure that the first letter is an M. I think it could be an N or an R. Of course the R doesn’t make sense if the following letters are ‘right’.

This is what I think I see:
N or R
r?
i
g or y
h
i?
n

Found it!

Morbus Brightis Syncopae

Apparently no longer used by the medical fraternity. It's a disease of the kidneys characterised by the following symptoms: Oedema, albumen in the urine, hypertension. inflammation of serious membranes, haemorrhaging, apoplexy, convulsions, and blindness. I managed to track it back from the death of Jacob Rath in Cincinnati in 1908.

Thank you to you clever people!

Peter

Well done.
And thank goodness.  I can’t bear it when these things don’t get solved!
