I am of Matchett descent. Read the 1641 depositions and you'll see Ellen Pilkington who married Matchett managed to get away with her two children. All Armagh Matchetts are descended from these two children. Ellen's mother was injured and died on the hilltop and had to be left behind. Many were drowned and the reverend was burnt in the Church.
All Matchetts of Armagh are from this reverend and the family. They were from Thurgarton, Norfolk 1500s. Prior to that it's France using machet as the surname.

Is it possible to share a more extended view of that family tree image? I have strong linkage to the Matchett bloodline and would like to learn more. My Matchett relatives hailed from Ballynarry and Cloncore but also had strong connections to Angus, Scotland.

Here is the text of the 1641 depositions https://1641.tcd.ie/index.php/deposition/?depID=836058r032 There is a time gap after that with no data available.
James Matchett was Vicar of Kilmore & Drumcree from 1613 and recorded as such but neither parish registers exist before c.1780. The earliest registers in the area are Seagoe & Shankill 1670 & 1680.

There is a connection evidently to Co. Cavan.

There are church registers for Tartaraghan which predate 1840 starting around 1825 (missing the marriage I need by about 1 year, of course).
