Accidentally "gate-crashed" this - didn't even see the original "Party Thread".

Are you going to throw me out? There's a really old bottle of Dubonnet, lurking at the back of a kitchen cupboard, and an equally geriatric bottle of Cinzano something-or-other near it that you are welcome to add to your bar stock if you can prise them open.
Not much idea about party wear as seem to have spent every fine day recently slogging in the back garden, and fallen asleep much easier than usual each night - through boredom or being worn out!

Welcome TY!

We were originally on the Coronavirus thread - but got chucked off that as we were trying to lighten things up a bit and give everyone a smile during this  'dark' time - so a Party Topic was started.

We have lost original party goers onto other threads - such as Brown Bin Collections! Hence the more the merrier -- if you have any mates (and I am NOT inferring that you haven't!!) -- please bring them along.

We have had several 'themes' for the various parties and are running out of ideas.

Current theme was suggested by that naughty Viktoria -- midnight party (!) -- with flags waving on the end of broomsticks. No dress code has been mentioned - so you can wear what you want. Jolly jazzy pyjamas will do if you are in bed! (Presumably patterned with union jacks). (Why is it called Union JACK I wonder - who was Jack?)
Places of interest;
Lancashire, West Yorkshire, Southern Ireland, Scotland.

How about a tasteful rather stretched, thin elbowed woolly jumper, grey sandals, and a rather dirty (with soil, I hasten to add) beige corduroy skirt that's seen many better days? Gardening kit. (Dressing down is the new dressing up, dontcha know?)

TY -- I always thought you were a male from your user name! But if you are wearing a skirt then I may have been wrong (but not necessarily).

If dressing down is the new dressing up - then I've been really posh for the last few days.

So glad you have joined the party -- now where is everyone else? We could really do with some good laughs to cheer us all up at this difficult time.

Rishile -- where have you gone - we need you back with your innovative ideas.

Also no-one has answered the question - Who was Jack? As in Union Jack.

Well MrsC debunked the supposedly NHS Wales advice re Corona Virus.
It truly looked authentic and was principally for health workers, from a hospital in Tenby.!
Told you I was daft.

Are we all clapping tonight?
Is it inside or out, don’t be having me standing on the step in splendid isolation.
They will take me away !
Now this party, is it settled ,vampire or Er, mmmm( you know—— the other  :o:o?
I am ready for every eventuality.
Have a good time everyone and “ see you there”.
Viktoria.

Oh. PS, not sure but the Jack part is I feel sure is to do with the Royal Navy.
Possibly the name of small flags as the Union Jack is also properly known as The Union Flag, from the time180—( early 19C ) when Ireland  was incorporated into the Union.
It sounds naval. The Jack part does.
Viktoria.

The Union flag gets its popular name of Union Jack because in the RN it is flown from the jackstaff – the short mast at the very front of a ship.

I'm not sure where Jack fits in though.

Thanks Michael,
Isn’t Naval terminology fascinating.
We bought my son when aged 14 a super kit of Victory,it was magnificent .
Absolutely exactly reproduced.
The names of the sails and all the ropes, a full plan if the rigging was a
lesson in itself and so many terms adopted into everyday language ,the origins long forgotten.
Flemish mares and Flying horses I seem to remember.
I stress the  “ seem”.
Thanks for the explanation .
Viktoria

Well there is Jack Tar as well which is a sailor -- so it makes sense.

Tommy was a soldier. Also Tom, Wotsit and Harry may or may not come into this.

I am clapping with a serving spoon on a pan -- the pan was suggested to me - as I had thought of a bucket -- pan much better idea from one of the many people cleverer than I can ever hope to be.

See you later Viktoria in your witches gear - unless you decide on the 'other' suggestion!!
