Victoria, my only connection with the RN is that my brother-in-law was in the Royal Marines & in 1967 showed us round HMS Victory when he was stationed on that ship. It was most unreal seeing the plaque on the deck where Nelson was shot & the bulkhead below where he died.

When we went round there was a Marine and a Sailor showing Groups round, there was friendly rivalry and such banter between them .
Nelson’s “ Cot “ was so tiny but he was a small man.
What a tragedy though, but I was a bit disgusted when I read his will in a biography,do you know all he left Emma Hamilton was the debt Lord Hamilton owed Nelson.
It was never paid to Emma by her legal husband but in those days a woman’s property was her husband’s anyway, and she died in Paris very poor and little more than a “ lady of the night”.
I found that dreadful .
Nelson also was not good to his wife , poor soul ,he could not have loved her.
But yes, Victory is magnificent .
I hope to see it again.
Viktoria.

History lesson coming up  ;D

Now, this goes back to the days of sailing ships. The jack is the little flag flown at the top of the mast above the ensign, the identifying flag. Also the small flag flown from the jack staff on the bow of the ship, includes signalling flags.

Wales isn’t on the Union Jack/flag because it was a principality of England when the political union of England, Scotland and Ireland was formed using the crosses of the patron saints of St Andrew, St George, and St Patrick

Thank you Suey -- that's great information. I had never known that.

Do you think that, inadvertantly - you may have suggested a theme for the next party?

Just off to get ready , you won’t recognise me, honestly .
I will be transformed but———into what!Aha!
I had some fishnet tights once , one size fits all, well being very slender
part way through the evening they had migrated out through the open toes of my high heeled shoes.
One guest was laughing , I said  they were supposed to be sexy , he      said” they are not” . He got to do the washing up !
So watch it!
So see you later folk ,bringing my Rolling Stones LP,
I can’t get no o satisfactio on —-

I believe Pirates and Princesses parties are quite the thing. As long as the ship stays moored to the shore I’ll come  ;D

Must see if I can find that broomstick, so I can join Victoria; put it away after one of the RChat Halloween parties along with a very fetching pair of striped tights.
