FindMyPast has the marriage (transcription only) of a Thomas Artingstall and Ann Wilde, 1827. How clear is the mother's maiden name on the birth certificate? The GRO has recorded John's mother's maiden name as Wood.

The 1827 marriage of the above couple shows that both Thomas and Ann Wilde were widows.
Maybe Ann Wood married Mr Wilde then Thomas so the children would have mmn Wood.

I had the top one not the others, thank you. I do have a problem that's been bugging me for a while, on the 1881 census there is Ann Fernley down as mother (who I presume is John Thomas Artingstall's mother) so I'm not sure what her maiden name is, or maybe she is Ann's mother.
