Swedish help please
« on: Friday 13 March 20 06:29 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
i have been trying to solve a brick wall. I have got a DNA match that may be helpful as they seem to be an illegitimate descendant of my great-grandfather. Great-grandfather's maternal grandfather is a mystery 'George Wilson'. His daughter, my great-great grandmother was born in the countryside of Victoria, Australia, in the mid 1850s. There is no birth record, and no marriage record of her parents. Her mother's history is known to our family, but not her father's.
Using mutual matches between the DNA match and my aunt, I eliminated those from my great-grandfather's paternal side and from his mother's maternal side. The few remaining matches, ergo, must be from his mother's paternal side. They seem to lead to a Hogan family who emigrated to the US from Sweden.
John Hogan seems to have been born in December 1854 in Varberg, Hallands, Sweden. His wife was Josefina Augusta Stevenson, October 1858, Hallands. If my great-great-great grandfather is from this family, it would be from at least 2 or 3 generations further back, so I am trying to take these lines further back and then try and go forwards in time to see if anyone ended up in Australia.
I am wondering how can I access Swedish Church records for Varberg, or if anyone is able to help in any other way.
Of course my ancestor might also be descended from the family that the Hogans' son Harry married into as well, which is James J Reilly 1860 Dublin, who married Jane Frances Summers, of Lanarkshire Scotland, born 1868.
Any help that anyone can offer will be gratefully accepted!

Sorry, but I am not sure - I am trying to find what I can via ancestry. I will see if I can find the shipping list there.

Going by the naturalisation record, it should be correct - but I suppose people could have been liberal with the truth. Have just found a death cert for John that says his father's name was Carl.
