I have an HP printer and have always used their cartridges but they seem to have tripled in price in the last two years so I am considering buying compatible ones. I am rather wary as I have had trouble with them in the past in a previous printer, not an HP.

Before buying compatibles I'd advise first doing some research on the internet about the specific model of printer you have and the cartridge model in question.

There was a time (some years ago) I'd recommend HP printers and have no qualms about recommending compatible cartridges.

However a couple of friends have had their (expensive) HP printers die shortly after starting to use new compatible cartridges.

Doing some internet research myself I get the impression there is a common theme around more modern HP printers - especially ones with the ability to automatically update their firmware online - suddenly deciding to give up on life when non-HP cartridges have been used.

Possibly pure coincidence. Or not.

All very difficult to prove of course.... but if a search for your model of printer suggests vulnerability to sudden death then you might want to give more thought to the options you have.

Given the cost of a set of replacement genuine HP cartridges can be more than the cost of a new printer the economics might suggest the best approach is to buy the compatibles, but to expect to have to buy a new printer in the not-to-distant future.

I use Stinky Ink, they are very reasonably priced & I have only once had a problem so e-mailed them on a Monday morning regarding the problem & a replacement arrived Tuesday lunch time no questions asked.
I have used Stinkyink for a variety of printers, including Dell, Samsung and HP. Much cheaper than manufacturers' prices, delivery rapid, no issues at all.

Canon printer £74. Replacement Canon cartridges £84! Prints about 100 A4 pages. It really is cheaper to buy a new printer rather than a new set or cartridges.

I have an HP printer/copier for which I've always used genuine cartridges until recently. Someone managed to convince me that cheaper compatible cartridges were just as good. I bought the tri colour one that was supposedly refilled with genuine HP ink. It was rubbish, the colours were dull and totally unsuitable for my purposes so I reverted to the genuine ones.

I was then recommended to this site by a different person:

https://instantink.hpconnected.com/uk/en/l/

I would have signed up immediately as it's a really good deal, but unfortunately my printer is not included in the list of eligible printers.
