In the church at Sutton Cheney, Leicestershire there is a memorial to John Parsons who
was killed in action. CWGC have very limited information. He was private 16819 of the 8th Bn
Leicestershire Regiment and he died 27th May 1918. On date of enlistment he resided in Sutton
Cheney however, there are no details of his age nor of his parents.
I wonder if anyone can trace him from this limited information?

There looks to be an ideal candidate at Dadlington in 1911, with his uncle James Pallett.
Let me see if I can work this back.

According to the Army Register of Soldier's Effects on Ancestry his effects of £33 6s 1d went to his sister Emma Parsons which may suggest that his parents were deceased and he was unmarried.

John William Parsons
Baptism: 05 Aug 1888 Sutton Cheney
Mother: Selina
No father but states 'married woman' for Selina.
There is a marriage on 27th January 1885 of Selina Pallett to Alfred Parsons in Attleborough, Warwickshire, nine miles from Sutton Cheney.
four other children from 1891-1901 registered in Market Bosworth.
They are in Nailstone in 1901, but no John. He is on the 1911 census.

I think this will be Selina's death S1907 age 39 Market Bosworth. The age is a little out compared with the 1901 census but I can't see another likely registration and it looks as if Alfred had remarried by 1911. John isn't with his Pa in 1911 either.

His siblings look to be Rose S1891, Emma J1896, Annie D1898, and Alice Maud D1901. All Market Bosworth with mmn Pallett. John William also registered Market Bosworth mmn Pallett D1887.

Thank you all, I think you have successfully found John. Many years ago I printed out a copy of John's
CWGC entry and posted on the church notice board requesting any information. None were forthcoming. Sutton Cheney church opens its doors daily and has many visitors from around the
world, the attraction being its connection with King Richard 111. If anyone can find out anymore
personal information on John I would like to re-post his commemorative information in the church
on the approach of Remembrance Day. I was once told that on this day the names of those
commemorated are read out at the service.
