DENNIS CAREY
« on: Monday 02 March 20 04:10 GMT (UK) »
Looking for Dennis/Denis Carey b 10 Jan 1864 in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland.  Can’t find anything else for him in Ireland.  Think he may have emigrated - England, Scotland, America or Canada?  Anyone ever come across him?

Son of Dennis Carey and Mary McCanon. Lone Moor, Derry.

When do you last see him or the rest of the family in Ireland?

His birth is the last record!   His brother Thomas Carey was my Gt. Grandfather.  He and both his parents died and were buried in Derry but no sign of Dennis.  Dennis’ father died 10 months after he was born.

Hi, thanks for that but I already have his birth certificate and that variation in spelling is quite common for Carey.  It’s where he went after that is the mystery.  Can’t find any other mention of him - marriage, death or military records.  Think emigration is likelihood but not found anything to substantiate that either.

I didn't find him at all in the US at familysearch or at ancestry.com, unless, when he died, no one knew who his parents were.
Could he have died and not been recorded? Did his mother remarry? Do you know where she is in 1901 and 1911?
Were there only 2 children? If not, did any of the others leave?

I answered a couple of my own questions,

Did his mother remarry? Do you know where she is in 1901 and 1911?

death
4 June 1895
at 28 Foyle Road, Derry
Mary Carey, 64, widow of laborer, informant: Thomas Carey, son, of 28 Foyle Road

So her son Dennis isn't hiding under a step father's surname.

I posted the link to birth record for reference to save others from looking for it.

Mother and other relatives buried Derry City Cemetery-

If he did leave Ireland he could really have gone anywhere- Australia, New Zealand, South Africa...

On the second try I found this man and had hopes for him:
Dennis J Carey, born between 1859 and 23 October 1868, living in New York City.

But when he died in 1943, his daughter Anna said his mother's name was Annie.

Have you looked in the UK, which is just as likely as the US, probably more so.
