TERRY family - Wye.
« on: Thursday 27 February 20 16:59 GMT (UK) »
I have a Thomas Terry ( Great x 5 Grandfather ) Born 1707, Married to Susanna Coveney at Aldington 21/08/1734 and buried at Wye 18/12/1795. I think he may have been born at Petworth W. Sussex on 24/06/1707 but can`t prove a link. Any help gratefully received.

I've checked the licence which says they were both 'of Wye' at the time of marriage.

I am descended from a branch of the Terry family and yesterday I found a Thomas Terry was a witness to one of the family marriages in Wye. Most of the branches that I am looking at came from the Maidstone area and a Thomas Terry was christened at Maidstone All Saints 18/8/1700. There were several other Thomas' after him so he would not have been the witness at the 1794 marriage in Wye, but I feel that there is a connection and was hoping to investigate further. If I do find anything further I will let you know, and I will also keep watching your thread for any other info that may be forthcoming.

P.S.

The Thomas Terry bpt. 18/8/1700 was the son of Thomas Terry and Jane who may be the couple who married 28/9/1694 at Maidstone and Jane's maiden name appears to be Clampson.

Thanks for the replies, I probably didn`t explain properly what I`m searching for ! I have records of the Marriage of Thomas Terry and Susanna Coveney at Aldington on 21/07/1734 and I know they were both residing in Wye at the time. I also know about his burial at Wye on 18/12/1795. I can also trace his descendants all though the years up to the present day but what I`m stuck on is finding out where he was born. I suspect he was born in Petworth W. Sussex but can`t find any way of proving it ! There is a record of a Thomas Terry baptised on 24/ 06/ 1707 at Petworth but is he the right one ? Once again, thanks for the replies and any further help would be very much appreciated.

It is a long way from Petworth to Wye - so why pick him?

What are his parents' names when that one was baptised?

Also, the burial record for Thomas Terry 1795 Wye says that he was born there.

There is a baptism for a Thomasin Terry (an adult) 21st March 1734 at Wye.

http://www.hastingleigh.com/OPR/Wye-Bapt-1701-1751.html

Thomasin is the female version of Thomas but apparently the record says son - no parents given.  If this is your Thomas getting baptised before his marriage it doesn't help you get back further  ???
