Diocese of Lichfield 1675 grant of administration I guess for Peregrine Wingfield of Preston in parish of Shawbury county of Salop

Samuel Thomas mercer and Arthur Hincks gent

Was Peregrine male or female please

Looks female, as it clearly ends with ePeregrine. The male form in this context (genitive) would end with iPeregrini.

The only relevant adjective that would have helped is def(uncti/e) = deceased. But because it’s abbreviated, the ending (and therefore the gender) is hidden.

The grant of administration is to Eliz(abeth) Thomas, the natural sister of the deceased.

The surname, as written, is Winfeild (not Wingfield).

Thank you so much Bookbox. I thought it clearly Peregrine but could not remember my declensions.
Also Elizabeth Thomas had brothers, surely had it been a male one of those brothers would have administered?
Supposedly a Peregrina was betrothed, there was a duel in which her intended was killed, and Peregrina hung herself, but this is the only evidence. No baptism, no burial, only "children" mentioned in father`s will.
