Mohamed 6 brown street glasgow
« on: Sunday 16 February 20 22:56 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace any Mohamed that stayed at 6 brown street in Glasgow in 1922. I have found records that Nathoo Mohamed stayed at the address and handed it over to his brothers in 1924. However I know that seamen perhaps stayed in the address previously to this. Does anyone know how I may trace them? I am looking for Golam Mohamed

1925 Valuation rolls has a Mathoo Mahomed as tenant of number 6. Not seeing anyone of either spelling of surname there in 1920 or 1915 Valuation rolls.

Natthoo Mahomed listed as tenant in 1930.

A Gulam Mahomed appears to be tenant in 1935.

A death for checking:

Mahomed
Goolam Hoosein
28
1921
644/5 54
Garngadhill

I’m not sure if he was maybe a seaman that was gone again by then. It’s my great grandad and I have never been able to trace him. He married my great grandmother Lucy McCavisten in 1921, their daughter Essie Mohamed was born in 1922 and the address listed on her birth certificate is 6 brown street. They then had my grandmother in 1925. Then I can find no trace of him at all :(

Lucy McAveston and Golam Mohamed were married in Greenock in 1921. If you compare the parents listed on that marriage certificate with the parents listed on the death certificate mentioned above you will know whether or not he is the same one.

Patrick Burke married Lucy McCavisten or Clark or Mohamed in Glasgow in 1957. That marriage certificate should tell you whether Lucy was widowed or divorced. Also, perhaps, where the Clark came from.

Lucy McCavisten or Mohamed or Burke died in Glasgow in 1962 aged 67.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Thank you for your reply.

It can't be the same one listed above as he died in 1921. My great-grandfather went on to have my grandmother in 1925.

Unfortunately Lucy's marriage to Andrew Clarke doesn't seem to have been legitimate. She is listed on his death certificate and at the point of marrying Patrick Burke is listed as Clark also however there is no official record of this marriage. However I will order the certificate for her marriage to Patrick and see what that says.

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards

Connie

Five other deaths of similar surname/forename combination in Scotland between 1937 and 1944.

Use M*h*m*d and G*l*m, to capture the spelling variations, albeit a number of others after 1944 too.

I’m not sure if he was maybe a seaman that was gone again by then.

What was his occupation on the 1921 marriage and birth certs in 1922 and 1925. What did his daughters say about him on their marriage certs?
